Top 5 Tips for Camping with Small Children
It’s no secret I love camping. I have loved camping from a young age and so has my husband, so now we are sharing that passion with our kiddos (ages 2 and 5). Our first camping trip with Colton was when he was 3-4 weeks old in a tent. It was a great trip and Colton was a trooper!
Eventually, we upgraded to a small travel trailer when Colton was old enough to realize a hotel room was not home. We recognized that we love to travel and had to adjust to make things easier with a child. So 5 campers and 2 kids later we are still camping and here are a few things I have learned!
-Make a list, check it twice, then triple check for the most important items. Most important items could be things like contacts, daily medications, sheets (all of which I have recently forgotten). Hey, Im not perfect.
-Let your kids pack. If your child is old enough give them a small bag to pack for a few toys. If your child is too young to do that, pack a few toys that they haven’t played with recently. It will be like playing with a new toy! Don’t overpack toys, give your kids some space to get creative finding new ways to play!
-Snacks for the car. Snacks for the camper/tent. Night snacks. Just snacks.
-First aid kit. A few things that we keep stocked are bandaids and Neosporin, Benadryl Spray, and Pepto. We never fail to have someone with an upset tummy or bug bites.
-Overpack the kids’ play clothes. Be sure to pack multiple layers during the cooler months. Also, They will destroy everything they wear, I promise.
There you have it, the top 5 tips for camping with kids. Now go pack your bags so you can get outside with your kiddos! Thanks for reading!
